Services:

Guardian Ad Litem (GAL):

Roles:

Investigation of the parties involved with a review of relevant issues and records.

Advocate for the child’s best interest, which may differ from the child’s wishes. The GAL does not have a traditional attorney-client role and owes primary duty to the court, not any individual. The GAL’s goal is to assess and recommend what best promotes the child’s well-being.

Reporting to the judge with information and recommendations to allow the court to make the best-informed decision in the interest of the child.

Attorney for Child

Roles:

Represents the child as the client, much like an attorney represents an adult.

Advocates for the child’s wishes and best interests, working within the bounds of the law.

Presents arguments and evidence on the child’s behalf to the court, ensuring the child’s voice is heard.
